This is the first time I have ever been to a protest. After the cowardly detention and forced hospitalization of Sonam Wangchuk by the Delhi Police (cronies of the ruling party) enough is enough. While I veer typically apolitical, the sheer apathy this government displays to it's own citizens has reached a breaking point. Today (19th of July 2026) I visited the CJP protest in Bangalore as a show of support, and perhaps more to assuage my conscience that for a brief moment, I did the right thing.
I hailed an autorickshaw to reach freedom park today in the morning, seeing as I was time crunched, the ride was expensive but necessary, and I can afford it for today. I asked the auto to drop couple of metres before the protest ground and went to the gate of Freedom Park.
I was happy to see that there were more people gathered here, with a stronger conscience than mine, and hopefully with a stronger sense of civic duty to the Nation. We as citizens of India, have fundamental rights, and fundamental duties. I believe one of the most fundamental duties, which the constitution does not explicitly espouse is to engage the state to course correct when necessary.

I have been late in publishing the blogpost, but better late than never. Today's demonstrations in Delhi and the violent, undemocratic, crackdown that followed is shameful. This government has proven itself worse than the British Raj. Over 70 years of post independence have been undone in one day of protest. The government in Delhi has forgotten it is beholden to the constitution and people of India and not the BJP.
I am reminded of a line from Singham.
अहंकारी को उसका अहंकार मारता है
Their arrogance will be their downfall, All the protesters who received injuries are heroes, largely for cowards like me who sat at home.
